NORTH PARK 2014A TAKES SECOND PLACE AT UTICA COMETS CUP

The NP 2014A squirt team attended its first tournament of the year in Utica, NY over Veterans Day weekend November 8th-10th. Facing stiff competition from Upstate and Western New York, the 2014As performed admirably, taking home second place and good momentum heading into the Holidays.

Facing the eventual champion from Buffalo, and with only eight skaters in the early Friday game, Coach Clayton's bunch rallied from 5-1 to make it 5-3 in the third period. Maintaining strong offensive zone pressure within the last five minutes, they pulled the goalie hoping to make it closer. However a tough bounce led to an empty net goal and a 6-3 defeat. The effort though set the tone for the weekend. With reinforcements arriving Friday night and Saturday morning, the team won its next three games, including an exhilarating 3-2 overtime win in the semi-finals Sunday morning; having been down 2-0, they tied the game late in the third and won it in OT with 20 seconds left. Facing Buffalo again in the final Sunday afternoon, the team fought hard to tie it at 2-2 in the second period, but eventually lost 6-2 to the skilled team from the shores of Lake Erie.
